We have been shot at in Iraq, slain in Afghanistan, arrested in the UK, detained in Australia, humiliated in Abu Ghraib, ridiculed in Denmark, and looked upon with doubt almost everywhere.
The very mentioning of us causes uneasiness for many, let alone sheer hostility in others.
